Newski / Kowalski / Tselebrovsk: Ars Longa Vita Brevis
Ars Longa Vita Brevis
Gleb Kowalski, the Belarusian artist and activist, declares Lukashenka's Belarus to be a total installation, an oversized art project in which every inhabitant of Belarus was allowed and forced to participate, and for which some were even asked to sacrifice their lives. In his speech, the artist expressed his gratitude to all those who made the project possible: from Yeltsin and Putin to Navalny and Lukashenko himself. Now, Kowalski says, is the time to finish this project.
In our video we used samples from the promotional film of the "Belarus - a country for life" from 2015, shot by the Belarusian Ministry of Information, as well as the fragments from what I personally consider the most violent manifestation of totalitarian horror: the entries of the national pre-selection for Eurovision Song Contest in Belarus from 2017 to 2019.
The music also uses the alienated fragments of the Belarusian Eurovision songs, as well as (at the beginning and end) my canon for nine solo strings from 2021. (Sergei Nevsky)
